No matter which body shape a woman has, having a clearly defined waistline will help enhance the look of her body in whatever she wears. (I also feel a little sexier when I know my waist is snatched!) Some women already have a natural hourglass shape. For those of us who don’t, it’s really easy to create that look. Bottom line – it’s all about creating a visual break that separates the torso from the hips. Every woman has a waist. If you’re like me you may want to make it appear smaller and more defined. I’m going to discuss three simple ways to help you achieve this!

  1. Add a belt

Adding a belt creates a clear visual break between the torso and hips. This gives more definition to the waistline. A ribbon will work as well, especially if you’re wearing a shirt or blouse. If you are thicker in your stomach area, using a thin belt is best. Here’s a side by side comparison.

2. Color blocking

Color blocking is a very trendy way to create waist definition. Color blocking comes in a variety of styles and designs, so choosing the right one is key. This top from JC Penney is a perfect example of how color blocking can enhance your waistline.

3. Prints on the bottom, neutral on the top

Wearing a bold print on your pants or skirt will not only define your waist, but it can be very stylish! A solid neutral colored shirt is best. When the eyes look up and down the body, it will see that break where the print begins, which will give the appearance of a smaller waistline.

There are several ways to give your waist more definition. My goal was to discuss a few of the most simplest ways here. Regardless of which way you choose, remember your shapewear! This will keep your body looking smooth while showing off those curves! Let me know how these tips work for you!
